Product Review: Fashion Origami

A few weeks ago the lovely people over at Find Me A Gift sent me a Fashion Origami kit to try out. I used to do a lot of origami as a kid and I was pretty good at it, but by now I've forgotten how to make most of the things I used to be able to do, including how to make a paper mouse, a fact that really upsets me for some reason!

I was about to head off to France, so I decided to take it with me as something to do - I'm the typical child of the internet generation: even with stacks of books to read I feel like I don't know what to do with myself when I'm not around the internet for extended periods of time!

The instructions for the easy designs were really clear and easy to follow, and all the pictures in the booklet were good and detailed enough.

However, this very confused look on on my face was when I attempted to make any of the two starred items - I was completely stumped by the instructions for the bra and the dress.

While I failed at the bra and the dress, I succeeded at the shirt & tie, the hat and the suit. (though I was not really sure what type of hat it was supposed to be!)

Do I think this set would make a good gift? Personally, though I used to enjoy origami I thought it was a bit of a waste of time, but if origami is something you've always wanted to try, you could do much worse than receiving this as a gift.

What is the most exciting origami shape you've ever made? Has anyone else tried fashion origami?

  6. Ooh, that looks fun! When I did my placement year in Spain I had really long bus journey to the school I worked in, and I got really into origami then to pass the time. I really wish I'd kept it up, I can barely remember how to make a crane now! x

  10. I need this! I think it looks incredibly cute, especially the one with the tie. You know what? I think it this would be super adorable to make one of these little things and put it in a box type frame, having the origami centred in the frame on a white back drop and hung! OMG! I want it so I can do that!

  15. I love this post, I used to do origami from a book when I was a kid, but I found it really hard! Your comment about being a child of the Internet generation is really interesting. I was at Latitude festival from Wednesday until today (Monday) and just took a rubbish Pay As You Go phone so that I wasn't worried about my Blackberry getting lost/stolen/damaged, and it was totally liberating! I think I was suffering from massive information overload, and it was nice to not be consciously checking my phone for emails/tweets and the like! I can highly recommend it, maybe even if it's just for a weekend?!

  19. This is adorable! The results look so cute but I don't think I'd have the patience to sit there and do it! Plus, I have a really odd phobia of the feel of paper so I don't think it'd particularly be my cup of tea! I think it's a fab gift idea for someone creative though - I'll bare it in mind when a friend's birthday next crops up!
