When buying dresses back in England, I always thought about the Spring/ Summer transitions (how can I wear or style this dress to make it suitable for both seasons and temperatures , but this skill has become even more important for me to master since moving to Los Angeles; the city where the weather, albit warm, is so unpredictable outfit wise it is no wonder it has become the capital of layering. With the topic of Womans dresses in mind for this edition of 'Sunday Style File' I thought I'd turn to one of my all time favourite bloggers, LA based Emily Schuman from Cupcakes & Cashmere to see how perfectly she masters this art of transition dressing for this absolutely mental climate we have here (why the founders of Greater Los Angeles did not think about how its fashionable residents will be able to dress for all weather eventualities when they decided to build a city out in the middle of a desert, I don't know!)
I think the main thing I have learnt from Emily about layering and transitional dressing is to employ the use of blazers. She has such a great collection of them which you always see her wear slung over dresses for Spring, which would look great by themselves for an everyday look in high Summer. I might have to invest in some.
My favourite look of hers that I have picked out for this post is the way she's worn this pink cardigan over a simply (yet nicely frothy) white dress, and tied a nice tan belt over the assemble; clinching her waist in and adding interest to what would otherwise be a very basic, and perhaps not completely put together outfit.
What are your tips for perfect transitional dressing, and are there any of your favourite style bloggers who you feel do it particularly well or have any style tips you think we could learn from? I'd love to see your links and ideas in the comments section!
