Pancake Day: Creamy Mushroom Savoury Dutch Baby Pancake

Pancake Day is imminent. In case you don't fancy making my Hoisin Duck WrapsNorwegian Surmelkslapper with Strawberry Compote, my Caramelised Apple Dutch Baby Pancake, my Banana and Nutella Dutch Baby Pancake, or my Gingerbread and Pomegranate Dutch Baby Pancake, I have taken inspiration from the new Smitten Kitchen Every Day cookbook for a savoury way to enjoy (yet another!) Dutch Baby for your main course, before you move onto the more traditional butter/ lemon/ sugar number for dessert (I've got a serves one recipe for this in Student Eats if you need one!) I've made it serves one, so you can make each one in little enamel dishes so you can make more of an event out of this years Shrove Tuesday!

Weekly Love: Week 214

This week I thought I'd share some of my favourite Netflix/ Prime shows at the moment, in case you're at a loss for what to watch this weekend! If you're into dystopia watch What Happened To Monday (made for Netflix films can be a bit hit and miss, so recommendations are needed!) However, what is not hit and miss is Netflix drama, so it is no secret that I'm on a total The Crown binge right now - how did I not know this all about the royal family? I've never seen the original, but if you loved Gossip Girl (same creators), Dynasty will be right up your street. For Fire Stick users like us who have Prime if you're after something procedural (and you loved Californication, also the same creator) watch Lucifer from the beginning, and thank me later!

Danish lunching at Snaps + Rye in Westbourne Grove.

Places To Eat In London: Snaps & Rye, Westbourne Park

On Tuesday, Kelly and I braved the biting cold to meander our way from Notting Hill Gate, all the way down almost to the very bottom of Portobello Road to find Snaps & Rye, a small Danish restaurant with big accolades we'd both had on our 'to try' lists for a while. In the mornings they serve Nordic twists on brunch time classics, at lunchtime a selection of small plate, traditional plates and smörgås open sandwiches, and in the evenings a selection of small plates and snaps cocktails, as well as a £38 (!) chefs tasting menu.

Weekly Meal Plan #2: Lunchtime Leftovers

I'm so glad that you all enjoyed my first Weekly Meal Plan! This week I've decided to focus on weeknight dishes that yield helpful leftovers either to make whole lunches the next day, or which will provide something helpful like cooked chicken, that you can mix with whatever salad items you have available, or make into wraps, pitta pockets or sandwiches. Remember, you can find all my Weekly Meal Plans here (sidebar link coming soon!)

Student Suppers: Stupidly Simple Lasagne

I did not like lasagna until I was 23 years old. It always looked horrible at school lunches, laden with cheese I could not eat, and when it came to making it myself the béchamel sauce always seemed like so much effort. Well, that was until two Septembers ago when Lottie + Doof blogged 'A Nice Lasagna' from one of my favourite cookbooks I cooked from in 2017, Julia Turshen's Small Victories. This lasagna contained just two cheeses (mozzarella I can eat, parmesan I do eat as long as I regulate the quantities), and a neat trick to replace the béchamel. I've made it so many times since, because did I mention it is so easy to make I have it memorised?

Student Suppers: Mussels with Sundried Tomato Pesto & Kale

This post was created in partnership with Sacla'. Mussels and kale are amazing right now, and they just happen to be really cheap, and two of my favourite foods. Bring the whole thing together with some free-from tomato pesto (or use regular green pesto for a herbier flavour, it's up to you), slowly softened onions and a splash of white wine, and you just so happen to get a stupidly speedy and addictive weeknight supper (that just so happens to be gluten and dairy free) that is so much more than the sum of its parts.

Weekly Love: Week 213

Happy first Weekly Love of 2018! I hope your New Year has been getting off to a roaring start. I'm pleased to be back into a routine (albeit a new one in the new flat!), even if that does mean I'm up to my eyes in pancake recipes trying to decide which one I'm going to share with you all for pancake day - that magic food week where Shrove Tuesday, Valentines Day and Chinese New Year all happen together is looming, and it is my favourite to cook for. Do you have any go to pancake recipes you think I should try?
Weekly Love 12.01.18

A fridge-clearing, lunchtime burrito bowl of Fox & Briar's Slow Cooked Mexican Beef, quinoa salad leftover from a Cocotte order, shredded lettuce leftover from my Lighter Southern Shrimp Po' Boy Sandwiches and a handful of cherry tomatoes. | 2. Filling the cupboards with healthy January snacks and planning upcoming meals. | 5. An incredible spread of Turkish mezze at Yosma. | 6. Camilla looking adorable for all of five minutes between extracting her from the crawl space behind the bed and her hissing at me when I tried to stroke her without duck flavoured kitten treats in hand!

Places To Eat In London: Yosma, Marylebone

For my first restaurant review of 2018 I want to share an incredible meal I had just before I headed back to Kent for Christmas: a table full of mouthwatering mezze (paired with some pretty awesome cocktails) at Yosma in Marylebone. Inspired by the food of Istanbul, Turkish small plates are the order of the day here. I'd plan to take a big group of you: the two of us were utterly stuffed (and I took some of the leftovers home with me) and I wish we could have had room to sample even more dishes: the king prawns with dill, fennel and za'atar smelled divine from the next table, and we did not order any mangal/ clay oven dishes!

Recipe: Lighter Southern Shrimp Po' Boy Sandwiches

[Ad] My first every Southern-style Po' Boy Sandwich was a deep disappointment. It was the first one I'd come across on the menu after I'd seen Anthony Bourdain wax lyrical about them on No Reservations. I was brunching at The Commissary, just having checked into The Line hotel in Los Angeles, and the sandwich I was served, traditionally stuffed with a mountain of deep fried shrimp, special sauce and shredded lettuce, with a kosher pickle on the side. God it was greasy, and I sat there for a while, wondering if the sandwich has simply been over hyped. After all, I was ordering 'American' food from somewhere other than California, where I had years since fell in love with the fresh, bright and healthy, Asian/ Mexican fusion, produce heavy diet.

Weekly Meal Plan #1: Easy Healthy Eating

I own hundreds of cookbooks, I have tonnes of food magazines stacked up everywhere and I have god knows how many recipe blogs bookmarked, but I still find it a struggle deciding what to eat each week when it comes to my weekly food shop. So, new for 2018 I'm going to be posting meal plans of the sort of things I think you'd like to eat through the year to solve your weeknight dilemmas. In each one I'll be including five recipes, one for each night of the week, and sometimes a few bonus treats at the end for the weekend if there is a special event, holiday or occasion coming up that you may want to cook for (or sometimes just because!)

How I Earn Money Off Of My Blog (2017 Edition)

Sometime in September when I have traditionally published them I decided it was rather silly publishing my annual financial report only nine months into the year, so, a few months late today is when we sit down together and I lay out exactly how I have made money from my blog in the past year, both as an exercise in looking at how the trends in blogging are shifting and changing, but perhaps to offer a helping hand to those of you who want to start monetising your sites, too. (You can find my 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 posts here.)

Recipe: How To Make An Easy Salmon Poké Bowl

Happy 2018, and hello from Fulham! I know things have been rather quiet around here (I think things were getting bad when I realised I'd not posted an Instagram in almost a week this morning!) but I have a proper excuse: we've moved into a beautiful new flat on the other side of London! So many things went wrong securing the flat and then moving all the furniture was so draining most of the last two weeks of December was swamped by it! However, now I could not be happier than the beautiful new space (think big windows, original fireplaces and reclaimed wooden doors) and my wonderful new neighbourhood where I can walk to the cinema, Whole Foods, a massive Waitrose and so many amazing small independents.
