Outfit Post: Photo Shoot at Venice Canals & Abbot Kinney Blvd.
One afternoon over Spring Break after iced coffee and juice from the Pressed Juicery at the amazing TOMS Flagship store on Abbot Kinney Boulevard my friend and amazing photographer Nicole and I planned to walk over to Venice’s famous canals. As neither of us are LA natives it is somewhere that we had not ventured to before, and as we are both photographers we are always looking for the next beautiful photo spot (when we are together we also feel the need to Instagram everything in sight as no one is judging us!) As you can tell from Nicole’s fantastic photos in this post, the canals were so beautiful, and I really recommend you head down there if you are visiting Los Angeles for a late afternoon walk; it is so idilic and along with the Getty Villa in Malibu it is one of the only places in Los Angeles where I don’t feel like I’m in a city.
This photo is very typical of my life in Los Angeles. While I still look a bit more put together in my outfits than the average Angeleno, I have gone rather casual with tees and shorts or jeans, or just simple sun dresses most days. Heels are a distant memory; I’m usually wandering around in TOMS or Havianas, my eyes are always shaded by a big pair of sunglasses and quite a lot of the time I trade in my handbag for a big tote. This pretty awesome bag which is a particular favourite of mine I was given at the Canoe Inc. AW12 Press Day in London. While it came from London, I feel it is very fitting for Los Angeles as Canoe Inc. rep lots of the ‘California Cool’ brands like Vans and Volcom over on our side of the pond. While I am not one of those people who walk down the street texting, I do live with my phone in my hand. I would not be able to function without (the non-updated version of) Google Maps.
This is what happens to TOMS when you wear them half to death. I am rather in need of a new pair or two, but every time I see them in a store or I go for coffee at the flagship they seem to always be sold out of these, my go to navy pair, and any other styles I happen to like at the time in my size. I’m going to have to replace them soon, though, or I will be walking down the street one day and I will find stones are getting in the back!
This little trip out to the canals and to the TOMS Flagship also constituted my brand new iPad, and mor importantly my brand new Marc by Marc Jacobs iPad case‘s first outing. Ever season when I shoot street style around Somerset House during London Fashion Week I always got jealous of those girls who so effortlessly carried their bright neon Marc Jacobs iPad and laptop cases as clutches, so I honestly could not really resist! My nail polish is ‘Fracas’ by Chanel and I think it goes rather well with the purple accessories I had here, as well as with my bright pink lipstick which I purchased on a whim in the MAC store just off Carnaby Street in London last year while I was hanging out with a whole gaggle of my blogger friends in-between press days (the shade is called ‘Impassioned‘).
Where was the last place you visited that was truly beautiful? Nicole and I are planning another adventure soon, so stay tuned for more of her beautiful photos from wherever we decide to head to next!
