Easy Smoked Salmon Bagel Mother’s Day Brunch Platter + Gift Guide
This year for Mother’s Day (mark your calendars, it’s the 31st! – and I’ve put together a handy gift guide at the end of this post if you’re stuck for ideas!) I had the pleasure of being asked to put together a Mother’s Day recipe and cocktail recipe for the Amara Home blog. To be honest I’m slightly in love with their homewares, and I spent a lovely Sunday treating my Mummy early to a smoked salmon bagel platter (I’ve done enough Pinterest events recently to know that grazing tables and platters are the *in thing* everyone is searching for at the moment!) dished up on one of Amara’s beautiful marble platters, and a fruity, herby twist on a classic mimosa in some of the beautiful glassware they sent me to photograph the feature with (and were kind enough to let me keep!)
To drink, I whipped up a pair of Ruby Grapefruit and Rosemary Mimosas – they’re such a beautiful colour and make such a lovely change to regular or blood orange juice in a brunch cocktail, and they’re also great to make ahead. Just squeeze and strain the bits out of the grapefruit juice the day before, and make the homemade rosemary simple syrup – you can also adjust juice and syrup levels to suit your Mum’s personal tastes.
While there are a few different smoked salmon bagel brunch platter ideas on Pinterest and I first had one at The Commissary at The Line Hotel in Los Angeles, lots of them play to the rather American idea of what a smoked salmon bagel should be served with (!) so I wanted to go for a bit more of a British affair: chopped hard boiled egg, miniature capers, onion slices, dainty pieces of cucumber alongside our salmon, and a chive-laced homemade whipped feta for spreading. If you have a bakery near you that does them, get fresh bagels if you can – they make all the difference, I promise! For the recipes for my Ruby Grapefruit and Rosemary Mimosas, and for the method for my Smoked Salmon Bagel Brunch Platter with Whipped Feta, head over the the Amara Home blog. Oh, and if you make either of these recipes, upload the photo to Instagram and tag Amara, you can be in with a chance of winning £100 in Amara vouchers – full details here!

Oh, and if you still don’t have anything sorted for Mother’s Day yet, here are a few little gift ideas: when I want to order someone beautiful flowers I always head to Bloom & Wild, if your Mum has a sweet tooth and you want to go down the subscription route, you can’t go wrong with a Hotel Chocolate Tasting Club membership or the Pump Street Chocolate Rare Batch Subscription (oh, and their Rye Crumb & Sea Salt Milk Chocolate is to die for, by the way) Also, if you know a new Mum who might not have time to cook while dealing with the little one, I know she’ll be over the moon if you send a Pasta Evangalists delivery her way!
