Build Your Own Magnum at the Magnum Pleasure Store Pop-up

In our family we have a thing called a Magnum break. We always have Magnums in the freezer (always classic, and sometimes raspberry flavour for me), and on a hot day when we have all been working very hard, we take the time to sit outside together and enjoy an ice cream. On Wednesday afternoon the team at Magnum invited me along to their Magnum Pleasure Store Pop-up on South Molton Street for what probably has to be the ultimate Magnum break: this summer in London you can design your own Magnum.

The concept is simple. You choose your ice cream (vanilla or chocolate), choose three toppings out of the many available (I went for the pretty, Middle Eastern, grown up option of pistachio, dried rose petals and a pinch of black lava sea salt), and watch the magic happen with your Magnum getting dipped in your chosen chocolate (dark, milk or white) and topped off with your chosen toppings, and a final drizzle of chocolate (again with a choice of dark, milk or white). Oh, and you know those Magnums you can buy that are double dipped with a saucy filling between two layers of coating chocolate? You can choose to double dip a milk chocolate Magnum with either a peanut butter or chocolate cookie (my pick!) flavour sauce.

Unfortunately, you don’t get to do the Magnum dipping yourself. Sorry about that. However, Magnum invited be behind the counter to try my hand at it, and it is more nerve wracking than you’d think! You have to work quickly to make sure all of your toppings stick, and it is really hard to get the outer layer of chocolate to stick on the double dip! My tip if you’re planning on making DIY bars like this at home? Patience, practice, and toppings help cover up any mistakes (though, don’t use too any toppings or it won’t stick!)

The Magnum Pleasure Store is open on 56 South Molton Street, Monday – Saturday 11am to 9pm, and on Sundays 12pm to 6pm until mid-September. For a single Magnum it costs £4.50, and £6.50 for a double dipped one. Oh, and be sure to tag me on Instagram (@missrachelphipps), as I’d love to see which toppings you go for!
